Parito Coastal Yoga Retreat

Parito is a small family run retreat centre which is owned by siblings Jenny and Jonny Horn and run alongside their partners Matt Phillips and Katie O'Connell. Parito was set up by Sanyassin Atmavidya Schon and her partner Pete who ran a variety of yoga and therapeutic retreats during their time on the land. The care of Parito was passed to us in early 2018 and we are currently in a process of developing the space so that we can offer range of holistic worksops, classes and retreats in time. As a collective, we share a passion for holistic health and wellbeing. We believe in the restorative and healing properties of spending time with nature and intend to continue to use the space at Parito for this purpose.

Jenny Horn

Jenny has a background in healthcare and is a New Zealand Registered Occupational Therapist and Dialectical Behaviour Therapist who has worked in the field of mental health and addictions for many years with a special interest in working with trauma. Jenny has kept a personal practice of yoga since her late teens Her love of yoga and appreciation for its therapeutic potential deepened following a period of travel in India in 2010 where she spent time living in ashrams and developed a broader awareness of the spiritual aspects of yoga.

Jenny's desire to deepen her personal yoga practice strengthened following a serious concussion and spinal injury in 2016 during which time yoga and meditation became an integral part of her recovery. Jenny took a sabbatical from healthcare work in 2017 which facilitated a period of overseas travel during which time she completed a Registered Yoga Alliance accredited hatha yoga teacher training course in Rishikesh. Jenny is currently in the process of moving away from tradiional health systems with the aim of developing her skill set in more holistic approaches to working with people with a particular interest in somatic mind-body work and yogic approaches to managing health, disability and injury.

Matt Phillips

Matt has been interested in spirituality and personal growth since he experienced a spiritual awakening in his late teens. What was initially a rather eclectic approach to personal development has settled into a very keen interest in Yoga practice and philosophy which has taken him to India several times. Most recently to study Ashtanga Vinyasa with Ajay Kumar and Pranayama with B.N.S. Iyenger in Mysore.

Matt has also studied Vipassana meditation as taught by S.N. Goenka. Matt worked as an arborist for several years whilst volunteering as a youth mentor before becoming a BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) registered Integrative Counsellor with a particular interest in Gestalt Psychotherapy. After working with trauma survivors for a number of years in the UK, he is now taking a break from clinical work to develop his own Yoga practice and look at more holistic approaches to wellness.

Jonny Horn & Katie O' Connell

Jonny and Katie are currently based in Ireland where they are reconnecting with family and the land. They have recently set up Ireland's first zero waste store, The Sustainable Store, Dublin, which they are operating along with their newborn son Ailbe. They spent most of 2017 in Raglan where they felt deeply connected to the land and community there and look forward to returning to Parito in due course.

 Growth at Parito

Parito is currently fully booked for 2018 and we thank you for your support in our first year at Parito. We are not organising further retreats or classes at this time. This is as Jenny and Matt are currently preparing for a trip to Parite in Brazil where they intend to develop their knowledge in eco building, sustainability and permaculture in exchange for providing therapeutic work with indigineous communities in the Amazon. They will then spend a portion of 2019 in India doing further yoga training to support the provision of a range of classes and workshops at Parito in time. Parito will be occupied for in our absence by long term tenants.
